maybe we should start planning for an outing? i love chalets but even a macdonald lunch is perfect. I still find the class lacking in some aspects - working together, listening to teacher, mugging late at night, no class spirit.

Something also concerning acting. June Holidays is a long break. I really would like the whole class to act in a "movie" where we submit it for MOCKA. we no longer wanna focus on just a couple on people, but a mass production, especially the movie must be on the topic of class spirit.

First of all, we need to know about the causes of World War I

1. Weltpolitik ( a.k.a German expansion/ Colonial Rivalry )

-Germany's aim to become a world power and should have overseas colonies like what Britain had, which was Australia, many parts of asia.

-Kaiser Wilhelm adopted this aggresive foreign policy

-Made clear to Europe it's expansionism ambitions

-Other European powers saw it as an increasing threat

-Talk about moroccan crisis-

-Germany already had colonies in south and central africa

-Wanted control over the north

-Britain saw it as a large threat, and threats to their colonies. Germany in MorocanCrisis intervened in what was considered a French sphere of influence, demonstrated how far the Kaiser was willing to go to gain new territories

___-Therefore/Hence led the rest of the Western powers to regard germany as an aggressive power, thereby driving them to direct their forces at Germany, eventually leading in war.

Birds, an aviation hazard, hit 1 in 10,000 flights

WASHINGTON – Airplanes chew up birds all the time but sometimes the birds win.

That may be what happened Thursday in New York when a US Airways Airbus 320 made a crash landing in water shortly after taking off from LaGuardia International Airport.

Flight 1549's pilot reported a "double bird strike" to air traffic controllers moments after taking off, and said he had lost thrust in both engines, said Alex Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the National Air Traffic Controllers Association.

Technically, that means the plane had struck — or been struck by — two birds, Caldwell said.
But Air Line Pilots Association safety committee chairman Rory Kay said the pilot's message could easily have meant that the jetliner had ingested birds in both engines or that it had been struck by more than just two birds.

"It's not easy to count birds," Kay noted wryly, when you're taking off or landing and typical speeds can exceed 100 miles per hour.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Diane Spitaliere said, "Bird strikes do happen from time to time."

She said there haven't been many major accidents due to birds strikes, "not in many years — not like this one. ... It's more common in general aviation — smaller aircraft."

From 1990 to 2007, there were nearly 80,000 reported incidents of birds striking nonmilitary aircraft, about one strike for every 10,000 flights, according to the FAA and the Department of Agriculture.

The administration requires pilots to report bird strikes, Spitaliere said.

But Kay called birds "a definite Achilles heel" for aviation.

A commercial airliner like the US Airways plane is most likely to encounter birds on takeoffs and landings because that's when the plane is flying at lower altitudes, Kay said.

Most of the time airliners are flying at 20,000 feet to 30,000 feet where birds are few in number.

But below 5,000 feet is where planes run into trouble, Kay said.

"There is no shortage of bird strike reports ... You just don't get to hear about them," said Kay, a Boeing 767 pilot who has been flying for 34 years.

Kevin Poormon, a senior research engineer at the University of Dayton Research Institute in Dayton, Ohio, tests the ability of airplanes and engines to withstand bird strikes by firing 4 pound to 8 pound birds at strategic points along aircraft from compressed gas guns at hundreds of miles per hour. He said he uses "freshly killed" birds or a gelatin substitute "that has similar impact properties."

If necessary, researchers can launch the birds at up to 900 mph, Poormon said. FAA requires airliners to withstand strikes from birds weighing as much as 8 pounds at particularly vulnerable points along the aircraft, he said.

"It's a pretty significant problem," Poormon said. "There have been over 200 fatalities in the last 20 years due to bird strikes worldwide and there are 5,000 impacts that are reported every year."

"Aircraft are being struck every day by birds," Poormon said. "The reason you don't hear about them so much is they are designed to take these impacts. But once you get to large flocks or large birds striking at a critical moment, that's where these events hit the news."

Richard Dolbeer, a former USDA scientist who coordinated wildlife management at airports nationwide and was chairman of Bird Strike Committee USA, a multi-agency group, said that gulls are a problem nationally along the coasts.

Canada geese living in the United States have increased from about 1 million in 1990 to 3.9 million in 2008, he said.

A resurgence of birds and wildlife that end up being hazardous to aviation has followed the environmental initiatives of the 1960s and 1970s aimed at cleaning up the nation's water, protecting species, eliminating dangerous pesticides, and expanding the wildlife refuge system.
At the same time, aircraft have become faster and quieter so birds don't detect them as readily.
Often, birds are sitting quietly until they hear an airplane coming, and then trying to get away, fly up and wind up striking the plane, Kay said.

Ted Lopatkiewicz, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board, which sent a team Thursday evening to New York to investigate the US Airways crash, said bird strikes are a continual concern.

"The engines are made with that in mind," Lopatkiewicz said. "They understand that that's going to happen."

Yep so for the Chinese Orchestra,
WE went to perform at some dinner for the Tan Kah Kee Foundation or smth like tt..
Mr Tharman and Mr George Yeo ( Minister of Foreign affairs) and all the China Bigshots and ambassadors were there...

yea we did well but my music score dropped on stage... the worse thing tt could happen next to dropping a cello's bow or the cello falling out from in between your legs....

I think ppl were watching from down stage but i din bother...

Tips to keep happy in outing

1. Preferably no treating of food. In this world, there is no such thing as a free lunch. So dun treat other people to snacks, they pay for their own.

2. Vulgarities limited. You're only allowed to use the f-word. Nah.. Just try not quarrel or scold ur fellow classmate

3. Be fair in soccer. Normally you all argue go Steven team, it's alrite if u never enter, it's for fun.

4. Don't talk about Wolfteam too much and dun try to call nicknames too much either. Don't bring laptops, it's not a cyber-outing, it's a physical outing or wadeva they call it.

5. Don't invite friends along, other than 1J.

And would you like to split to smaller groups like 4 groups, so we can talk about speciality like Wolfteam without being annoyed by the other people who hate Wolfteam.

For another class outing anyone in for Escape Theme Park or Wild Wild Wet, or too expensive?

Hey as everyone know, I will be doing 1J tribute video. But in order to do this, I want to film this on the day all to ourselves. So can there be a vlass outing or something?

The tribute's objective is to bring about humour to 1J, so in the class outing act silly, as I will take u in ur silliest pose on camera, and at the last part, we all need to come together in front of the camera and say " WE ARE 1J". Therefore, a chalet maybe? Pasir Ris one is nice! If possible, leave me to the booking and just pay $2 each. Details to be approved and confirmed.

So EOYA Discovery Centre. Wear uniform, Bring PE. Be in school normal time. First go LT4 then go SDC. There we will be doing Guided Tour - X-Race, X-Factor City Exhibits, Origami and ARMS tour! So funnnn. Ends at 12.30. Dun fall sick, drink lots of water. Sleep early, as long as it's not more than 1 am. Unless u mugging after exams la.

this post is concerning the changes tt you guys would like to make.
Since JekJin has put up some pointers, i'll try my best to work on it.
Hence im asking if anyone else has anymore ideas or things they want to put in so that i can work at it all together and not one at a time.

So far.

1) Change from mixpod playlist to imeem

Reason as given by JJ, Blaring music...etc.. i'll add in more music on top of the ones already in.

2) Blogskin

hmm as you guys know, blogskin is done by clarence so if we were to change it, much effort would be needed. So we will try our best but please bear in mind the efforts put in by your fellow classmates to meet your suggestions. I know this is a class blog. So this is just a simple something to think of =)

3) Photos section

I'll try to put up a gallery of some sort on the sidebar. So you guys quickly go accept your rights as author so you can post videos and pictures on it =)

Second point.

On Quanyu, i dont know anything much. But i feel the class seems to be missing something w/o him. As we can see is emotional trauma or whatever it is, it is an accumulative thing. As it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone of us too. And im sure no one wants to see it happening to anyone and only showing care and concern after they're emotionally down. Think of it. Think before acting... we all know its a joke. But is tt how people take it to be?

1stly, what happened to Quan Yu. Can those that actually know tell us. Becos he has not been in school for like 2 weeks and its high time we show some concern. I don't see him online nowadays. we should really really ask. & if its our attitude towards his (sorry but crudely) size then I think we should like change it because it seriously isn't very nice to have something on your (Mr Toh is enough) back reminding that you need to cut down on Carb. (sorry for the crudeness)

2ndly, the design of this blog. erm, can we change the music player to like imeen becos this music player doesn't seem to have a volume control thus we have to endure the music blarring into our headphones. & the skin. Can we have it more customized? Its very blogger-ish. It is our class blog leh people. Can we have it more unique? More photoshop and more pictures. Or how about a photo section so that we can have potential endofyear presentation photos. Other than that, we need to have the class photo redone due to some crude/balant reasons. :O okay. So I would like you guys to consider my suggestion of customizing the 1J! section where you have all your names. For Chinese, i guess everyone was surprised when we heard who was the top in 1I,J, and K..

As mentioned earlier on, this blog is meant for any announcements or discussion. However, it does not mean that you can remain anonymous.

If you want to voice out your opinion on the cbox or make any comment, there is NO NEED to remain anonymous. What's the point of doing that? If you want to voice out, just say it. There's no harm, really.

Don't forget its very easy for me to track down. So do not waste people's time trying to find out who you are. Seriously, like who don't hate others being anonymous?

Just to follow up.

Please get your facts right before scolding people.
The thing is, same as you guys, i hate anonymous people.
However, don't jump to conclusions just like this

Please. We are people from Hwachong.
When you make decisions please think carefully, it is really important.
Don't let people doubt our IQ,EQ,AQ or MQ.

Secondly, I have only publicised the blog to people from our class. Other people that come are NOT PUBLICISED BY ME. I just want everyone to know that there is such a blog and we can share it among ourselves.

This little things show alot. I don't see why you guys can't have a little patience and must get so worked up over small little things. This is one area that our class has to work at. That is what i feel. The conflict caused just because we cant be a little more patient with each other.

Please, think before you act.
It plays a huge role in our character.
and later on in life you'll know how impt it is.
This is just a point of view. whether you want to work on it its fine.
But im sure everyone knows that all the conflicts we have in the past year
could have been avoided, if we can just be patient.
Ponder over it.

Class Outing? Edits done

Haha! It's been almost a year since our first meeting in class. (teacher then was Mr Png, the very pro sec4 teacher). And I still remember that the CMC is planning the class outing right?

Class outing? I'd be a very good idea to make us closer as a class! CMC!!! It's all up to you guys about it already loh! Guys, please give suggestions to them! It's fine to suggest what you guys (make sure NOT only you, but alot people agree too) like.

i would just like to congratulate the following people who did so well for their exams today!

Geography..Ravi..who scored highest in class for geog 40/50 and Xin Ling who got 39.5/50

they deserve our commendation...

there has also been a remarkable achievement in our class for English..thats

he was the only one in the whole iSpark and Ortus consortium who got full marks for his comprehension!

that showed the other classes that we mean business!!

anyway our class got our BEST average for the entire year~ 3.00 MSG! Highest record of our class throughout the year

haha..as usual..the two out standing science students scored well..Clarence and He Kai..who got 70 and 72 respectively...that's amazing compared to my results..=)

well..will be commending the outstanding people who will do well in the following subjects!!

Would someone like to volunteer to consolidate all the frequent quotes tt teacher's often like to say?

Hmm perhaps the ones who brought up the idea, like Arnold and some others whom i forgot, would like to post it.. Make sure its accurate and ACTUALLY SAID BY THEM...

Lastly, I received some news saying that some of you could not accept the invitation and become an author to this blog.

As from what i heard from Randy, even people with gmail accounts cant seem to accept the invitation... When you guys tried to sign in, they linked you to this page error thing and it should display some code right? I faced the same problem and this was how i managed to successfully accept the invitation.

WHOOOOO!!! HEY! Sorry for always delaying the making of the class blog, it's finally up.

1) Sorry if it's very ugly, tried my best already, if you want some change, tell me because I have the master account to do editing.
